Strategically located just thirty minutes from New York City, Yonkers has convenient access to Manhattan and upstate New York, via public transportation and a number of interstates and parkways. The New York State Thruway (I-87) running north and south links Yonkers with New York City and Albany and provides convenient access to Manhattan, New Jersey (via the George Washington and Tappan Zee bridges), to upper Westchester County and to upstate New York.

Four parkways, which connect with the New York State Thruway, serve Yonkers’ non-commercial traffic. The Saw Mill River Parkway runs north-south from New York City and merges with I-684, while the Bronx River Parkway runs north-south from the Sprain Brook Parkway in Bronxville, through White Plains to Valhalla, where it becomes the Taconic State Parkway. The Sprain Brook Parkway runs north-south from Bronxville to the Taconic and Saw Mill River Parkways. The Cross County Parkway, the only major roadway running east-west, connects the Saw Mill River Parkway, the Bronx River Parkway, the Hutchinson River Parkway and the New York State Thruway.
